500 Mile Run.jpg)
On August 25th The Reverend Eric Vaudt, Berta Presby and Buck Hodges ran 1.5 miles to symbollically wrap up what has been a year of running to raise money for Heart Havens. Eric, an avid runner since his days in the Navy, came up with the idea to run and collect sponsors as a way to raise visibilty and funds. He felt called by God during one of his own runs, to take what he did naturally, and turn it into a way to help others. He influenced Berta Presby to begin tracking her own mileage. Berta, who racked up miles wherever she went, including Brazil, Texas and Rhode Island, parlayed her passion for running into supporting a great cause.
The run began at Community UMC and ended at the MacLeigh house in Virginia Beach, where runners and non-runners assembled in the backyard for delicious burgers and hot dogs, a tour of the recent renovations inside the home, the presentation of the money raised by the run, and a little frisbee.
The group was joined by the residents of both MacLeigh and Taylor house, who, despite enthusiastic insects, enjoyed great cookout by Jeff Hall and Jim Butts.
We are very grateful to all the sponsors, runners and supportive individuals and groups involved in this extraordinary event. Thank you also to the staff and the residents of Taylor and MacLeigh for helping us, and helping us celebrate.
Someone must have ordered well-done.
